The department also boasts of a special collection of instruments not routinely found at small colleges, such as a 400 MHz multi-nuclear, super-conducting Fourier Transform nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer, a home-built laser-scanning microscope used for nonlinear optical imaging, and a high-performance liquid chromatography instrument with quadrupole mass spectrometer detector.
